"The pictures do the talking", talk by Adolfo Serra
- 21 October, 5 pm
- EINA, Barcelona
- Open to the public
As part of the postgraduate diploma in Creative Illustration and Visual Communication Techniques, Adolfo Serra will talk about the challenge of illustrating and the process of creating illustrated books.
“Illustrating is deciding, illustrating is sharing, illustrating is observing, illustrating is... many things, and it depends on everyone’s vision. There are as many ways of illustrating as there are illustrators. The line, the stroke, the mark, the metaphor, the narration, your own experiences, they all serve to create. The text is the path, but you sometimes need to come off it and look for the hidden, see from another perspective. The challenge for the illustrator is to make this inner world visible to the reader and to confront the blank page.”
Explorer of blank pages. He studied Advertising and Public Relations but soon returned to his childhood passion: drawing, picking up pencils and watercolours again at the Arte 10 School in Madrid. Since then, his desk has been filled with colours, papers and textures.
His illustrations have been selected for the Bologna Children's Book Fair (Italy), Bratislava Illustration Biennial (Slovakia), Sharjah Children’s Book Fair (Arab Emirates), Catálogo Iberoamericano de Ilustración (Mexico), CJ Picture Book Awards (Korea) and the Mostra Internazionale d'Illustrazione per l'Infanzia Sàrmede (Italy).
