Tom Edicions, with Laia Clos, wins the Design Market Campari Award

Laia Clos, teacher on the Bachelor’s Degree in Design, won at the third edition of the Design Market Campari Award for the most innovative design, organised by the FAD, with her project "The Four Seasons, SisTeMu", with Tom Edicions.

Through Mot Studio, they created SisTeMu, a graphic notation system that interprets musical texture, which translates music notation into simple geometric shapes and basic colours, exploring the rhythmic and melodic harmonies that are found in music compositions.

The award-winning project is an interpretation of the four concerts for violin of Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’. Each of the posters is the complete translation of a concert – a season – played by the principal violin.

The jury awarded it the prize for “the ability to transform music into a highly attractive visual piece and the sensitivity when doing so, with a very precise process and a visually beautiful result”.

Side B of the Mot studio, Tom Edicions, carries out design projects that aren’t subject to a prior commission and that are born out of the desire to explore different sphere and languages of graphic design, at all times on the basis of a conceptualisation of a subject or the interest in a specific area.

EINA is working with the Gran Teatre del Liceu

Fourth-year students on the EINA Bachelor’s Degree in Design, in the Infographics and Data Display subject, led by Jordi Català, are undertaking a collaboration project with the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The work consists of creating two Snapshot-type infographics on aspects that the students decide based on the Rossini opera “L’Italiana in Algieri”.

To take on the project, taking into account all its details, the students attended the advance première of the opera production on 11 December.

The collaboration between EINA and the Liceu also allowed last year's Infographics students to undertake work to reinterpret the poster of the works produced by the opera house in the 2017-2018 season, which was highlighted in the “Behind the Curtain” exhibition that was shown at the EINA Barra de Ferro Arts Centre.

Participation in Serifalaris

  • 28 and 29 September
  • Getxo

Late September in Getxo sees the Serifalaris graphic design festival, where Lluc Massaguer, coordinator on the Master's in Graphic Design, where she also teaches Graphic Production, will be offering a master class with Josep Amat on "From the Concept to the Material. The Design-Print Tandem".

The combination of graphic design with technical know-how of production and printing open to experimentation offers an interesting concept, a great added value.

The master class will, on the one hand, show examples of design projects that are outstanding for their good technical work, choice of materials or combination of print systems, and on the other hand, be a space for looking, touching and smelling physical examples of unusual and interesting solutions, ending with a small workshop where participants will be able to put into practice a choice of material based on a fictitious briefing.

Presentation of the publication "Yes We Print”

Thursday 3 May sees the presentation, accompanied by live music and silk-screen printing, of the second edition of the specialist publication, "Yes We Print", from "Yes We Printers", an initiative by Andrea Bilbao and Javi Fernández, alumni and student, respectively, of the EINA Bachelor’s Degree in Design that emerged from the need to create a non-digital publishing project, the aim of which is to recover manual processes and provide a publishing, production and graphic work publication platform.

The second edition takes an in-depth look at silk-screen printing technique throughout its history using it as an excuse to serve as a window display for young artists, creating their entire production using this technique in the workshop of the EINA Barra de Ferro Arts Centre. Students, former students and teachers such as Miguel Bustos, Oriol Cabarrocas, Andrea Cea de Vega, Carla Cimino, Maria Fallada and Miquel Vila took part in the presentation.

Laia Gabriel comments on “Noms de Guerres”, her final degree project on the Master’s in Graphic Design

In her Final Degree Project on the Master's in Graphic Design, Laia Gabriel has brought together two of her passions: publishing design and literature.

Laia’s project is a tribute to the nineteenth-century women writers who had to use male pseudonyms to be able to see their work published.

Her proposed publication constitutes a constant play on hidden identities, which creates a collusion with the reader while conveying them to the age when all of these writers lived.

The Master's in Graphic Design covers the specific features of graphic design, both in terms of objectives and the analysis, planning, resources and materials or management and direction of printed and online projects. The programme is comprised of two diploma courses: the Postgraduate Diploma in Graphic Elements Design and the Postgraduate Diploma in Web Design.

PRINTed #4. Singular publications

  • Date: Saturday 21 April, from 11 am to 8 pm
  • Place: EINA Barra de Ferro Arts Centre (Barra de Ferro, 2)
  • Publication: PRINT.ed#4

PRINTed #4

PRINT.ed aims to be a small-format fair devoted to the field of singular publications, which are taken to mean all kinds of published works that offer speculation about the idea of the book in its broadest sense.

The fourth edition of PRINT.ed will be on Saturday 21 April, from 11 am to 8 pm, at the EINA Barra de Ferro Arts Centre.

The aim is to offer participants an event and an interdisciplinary setting from which to communicate with each other and with the public, also providing a professional opportunity for the product of speculations created behind closed doors. Establishing bridges and inviting crossovers enriches us and generates a framework of common interests that should be expanded through these contacts, outside the production centres.

PRINT.ed is generated within an academic environment, with the idea of creating links between different centres of education worldwide in which to develop educational activities related to printing, publishing and design.

It also seeks to generate content and activate productive dynamics and, in this sense, it proposes activities that can range from the printing marathon carried out parallel to the second edition (24-hour printing people) to the workshops led by guest artists or production centres.

Taking part this year are: London South Bank University / University of Leeds (UK) / Wild Pansy Press / University for the Creative Arts. Canterbury. Kent (UK) / Llotja Escola Superior de Disseny i Art / Facultat de Belles Arts de la Universitat de Barcelona / Metàfora. Barcelona / EINA. Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona (Adscrit a la UAB).

Also collaborating are: Jan Barceló / Do the print
